He holds an M.Ch. in Urology and M.S. in General Surgery, with postgraduate training at PGIMER & Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi. He has held senior academic and clinical positions, including Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology, Robotics and Renal Transplant at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and Consultant in Urology & Renal Transplantation at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Gurugram.

Academic Contributions & Research |
Dr. Rao has been actively involved in medical education, research and academic activities. He has served as teaching faculty at VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, providing bedside and operative teaching to junior and senior residents, conducting seminars and case presentations, teaching undergraduate students and supervising research work undertaken by M.Ch. candidates.
He has also served as Principal Investigator for research projects including:
- Comparative study of Marshall Score versus APACHE-II Score in assessing the severity of acute pancreatitis.
- Comparative study of early outcomes of autologous saphenous vein graft versus buccal mucosal graft in urethroplasty for anterior urethral stricture.

Teaching, Leadership & Administrative Contributions

Dr. Rao has played an active role in medical education, professional mentorship, clinical governance and healthcare administration, with responsibilities spanning academic teaching, resident training, quality improvement and departmental management.
- Training Urology senior residents in operative procedures, along with bedside teaching and lectures.
- Training General Surgery residents in Urology and teaching undergraduate students in Introduction to Urology.
- Moderating case presentations and seminars and supervising and editing M.Ch. research work.
- Serving as Nodal Officer for COVID-19 positive surgical patients and as a rotational Nodal Officer in Emergency.
- Serving as Nodal Officer for NABH certification for the Department of Urology.
- Developing and standardising SOPs, operative notes, pre- and postoperative checklists, ICU charts and discharge summaries.
- Managing CGHS cases under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
- Contributing to the organisation of Urology workshops at PGIMER & Dr. RML Hospital and VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital.
